The Romania Court defends the populist of the extreme right that is postulated for president

The Populist Romanian of the extreme right, Calin Georgescu, has lost his appeal against a ruling that prohibits him from participating in the presidential elections of May.

The Constitutional Court issued the final ruling on Tuesday afternoon after deliberating for two hours.

A great crowd that gathered outside the court in Bucharest shouted “traitors” and “We are not going anywhere.”

The Central Electoral Office had previously rejected Georgescu’s candidacy for a repetition of the presidential elections in May.

Georgescu had won the first round of last year’s presidential vote, but was annulled after intelligence revealed that Russia had been involved in the creation of almost 800 Tiktok accounts that supported him.

On Sunday, the Electoral Office said that Georgescu’s candidacy did not “comply with the conditions of legality,” since “violated the obligation of defending democracy.”

Georgescu appealed that verdict the next day.

Many of the protesters outside the court had ruled flags covered around their shoulders.

They sang “Calin Georgescu is president” and “Libertad”, and condemned the judges as traitors. A woman had a sign that said “stop dictatorship.”

The news of the decision took time to maintain the ban to reach the crowd. When he did, there were strong “boos” aimed at the judges inside.

The crowd soon became noisy and angry, saying that they had come to the streets to defend democracy.

Calin Georgescu, the man they support, comes from the extreme right -wing stripes of Romanian policy, but now he is at the forefront and promises to make Romania again again.

Many Romanians believe that it is being blocked by a political elite that is corrupt and away from people.

The presidential election was canceled after Georgescu won the first round in November 2024, when intelligence was launched suggesting that Russia had backed a giant Tiktok promotion campaign for Georgescu.

For European leaders and many in Romania seemed that Russia was trying to weaken Europe and undermine their liberal values.

That is still the opinion of many Romanians who fear a man who admires Vladimir Putin and does not like NATO.

However, the crowd in the streets of Bucharest on Tuesday night shouted about democracy and freedom. They demanded the right to vote for Georgescu and have been denied.
