TAINAN, Taiwan, Dec. 30, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Himax Technologies (NASDAQ:), Inc. (Himax or Company) (Nasdaq: HIMX), an industry leader in ICs and other semiconductors, today announced that the Company will its expanded WiseEye ™ PalmVein platform at CES 2025, featuring powerful bimodal palm vein and face sealing technology. This flexible, anonymous, low-power bimodal biometric authentication is designed to enhance security and user-friendliness in smart locks. Using multiple biometric methods for authentication, the newly introduced solution offers unparalleled security, unlimited adaptability and a powerful, user-friendly experience, ensuring t authentication process in different contexts and environments.
The Himax WiseEye PalmVein solution, a commercial part of the Himax WiseEye module, combines the Himax WiseEye2 AI processor, an AoS CMOS sensor, and a palm vein authentication algorithm. In particular, the Himax PalmVein solution has been awarded the PSA Certified Level 2 security certificate, to ensure that it meets the highest security standards. Featuring a low-cost, modular, plug-and-play design, it can verify personal information in less than 100 milliseconds, marking the breakthrough in security technology for smart devices battery powered. Due to the fact that an individual’s palm vein pattern is as unique as DNA, even among identical twins, it offers higher security compared to conventional fingerprints or facial recognition. In addition, it uses only a few milliwatts of power, making it ideal for battery-powered, on-device AI applications.
Himax WiseEye PalmVein provides high accuracy and robust detection, greatly reducing identity fraud and fraud, with a FAR (False Acceptance Rate) of 1 in 1,000,000 and an FRR (False Rejection Rate) of less than 1% . This ensures reliable operation regardless of challenges such as age, fingerprint quality, height, or lighting, which affect other authentication methods, such as vision systems and fingerprints. In addition, PalmVein authentication provides a seamless experience that confirms identity in less than 100 milliseconds. Its industry-leading low-power operation extends battery life to more than 9 months per 8 AA batteries only, although it is used regularly at home. Since its launch at the beginning of 2024, Himax’s WiseEye PalmVein technology has already won a lot of customer interest and has been adopted by the American consumer for smart access control systems, with a large production underway first.
During CES, Himax will demonstrate a live demo of the extended WiseEye PalmVein suite with bimodal validation, palm and face vein validation, specifically designed to address customer needs for adaptability to smart locks, regardless of environmental conditions. For example, in extreme cold environments where wearing gloves makes palm access control impossible, the system adapts by enabling face recognition as well as keypads, improving the functionality of two-step authentication for continuous, reliable and enhanced security. This flexible and intuitive achievement demonstrates Himax’s leadership in biometric authentication technology, providing a flexible and secure solution for modern battery-operated door locks. . In addition, the WiseEye Module’s flexible, plug-and-play characteristics facilitate the integration of other personalization features, opening the door to the future of multi-modal authentication. This capability ensures security and user comfort, ensuring seamless, flexible access control across a wide range of environments and applications.
The smart door lock application will highlight how bimodal biometric authentication, with facial and neural recognition, enhances security and user comfort.
