The prices of goods and services increased less than expected in February, since consumers and companies are concerned with the impact tariffs they could have in inflation, the labor statistics office reported Wednesday.
The consumer price index, a wide measure of costs throughout the United States economy, increased 0.2% seasonally adjusted for the month, which puts the annual inflation rate by 2.8%, according to the Labor Department Agency.
Excluding food and energy prices, the central ICC also increased 0.2% in the month and was 3.1% in 12 months.
The economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for increases of 0.3% both in the title and in the nucleus, with respective annual rates of 2.9% and 3.2%, which means that all rates were 0.1 percentage percentages less than expected.
Stock market futures kept positive after launch, while treasure yields were mixed, pushing lower at the larger end of the curve.
