There is no easy way to say it: America’s farmers They are in trouble.

Our farmers lost more than 30 billion dollars this year. A new Farm Bill to help them is stalled in Congress thanks to Democratic evasion. Four years of rising input costs and Biden-led regulatory overreach have put many family farms on the brink of extinction.

The good news is that America will soon have a friend of farmers in the White House. President-elect Trump won victory after victory for our farm families during his first term, and I know that is one of his main goals for his second term. But as the old saying goes, personnel is politics.

That’s why we need Brooke RollinsPresident Trump’s nominee to serve as Secretary of Agriculture will be confirmed as soon as possible.

TRUMP RECOGNIZES TEXAN BROOKE ROLLINS AS SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE

I worked with Brooke at the White House, where she and I were part of a group of women empowered by President Trump to fight for his vision of America First. As director of the National Policy Council and the Office of American Innovation, Brooke dominated policy across all issue areas and helped the president unleash the largest economy in American history.

He worked especially hard to roll back onerous bureaucratic red tape like the United States Waters policy, which President Obama wanted to regulate every creek, creek and puddle in America.

Farming isn’t just intellectual for Brooke. He grew up in a small farming community in Texas and comes from generations of hard-working American farmers. He studied agriculture at Texas A&M and spent the early part of his career fighting to protect farmers’ interests. He was part of 4-H and FFA and raises oxen with his four children.

U.S. AGRICULTURE IS PREPARED TO BE THE NEXT FRONTIER IN CYBERSECURITY IN THE NEW YEAR, EXPERTS AND LEGISLATORS SAY

Not long ago, I joined Senator John Boozman, Arkansas’ senior senator and incoming chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, for a tour of farms in the Arkansas Delta. At the end of a long day of meeting with farmers, we sat down at a round table in McGehee (Arkansas). I had known for a long time that our farm families were struggling, but this event made it abundantly clear.

One by one, the farmers around the table told me how their neighbors and family were leaving the farming industry and were struggling to find work elsewhere. They talked about how the price of everything from fuel to seeds was going up, but the price their row crops were fetching in the market wasn’t keeping pace. They described it as a generational crisis.

I have always believed that agriculture is more than just a business. Especially in places like small town Arkansas, it’s a way of life. It is the culture of our state, our history and what unites communities like McGehee. If our farmers disappear, something fundamental to the spirit of Arkansas – and America – would disappear along with them.

Brooke understands that fact and is prepared to do something about it. I know the first item on your to-do list is to work with the new Republican majorities in the House and Senate to pass a Updated Farm Bill – legislation that has not been thoroughly reviewed for ten years. I know he will work to undo the regulatory bureaucracy that cripples our farmers and makes a difficult job impossible.

I know you are committed to improving broadband and connectivity in our small communities, helping rural Arkansas connect to the world. And I know he will fight to realize President Trump’s vision of a dominant America—in food, energy, and everything else.

My father used to say that if a country can’t feed, feed, or fight for itself, then it can’t survive. It is not dramatic to say that we are getting very close to that point – and we need a dramatic change in leadership to right the ship.

Brooke Rollins is that leader. Confirm Brooke as Secretary of Agriculture. Stand up for American farmers. Preserve our agricultural industry – and our nation’s way of life.
