The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, IBM’s planned acquisition cloud software vendor HashiCorp will affect competition.
The CMA said on Monday that it has invited interested parties to comment on the merger until January 16. The regulator has set a provisional deadline of February 25 to decide whether to cancel the deal or send it for further review.
Like The Wall Street Journal reportsIBM announced in April that it had agreed to buy HashiCorp for about $6.4 billion. The acquisition, if it goes through, would expand IBM’s reach into the cloud and artificial intelligence and give the company access to HashiCorp’s roster of about 4,400 clients.
Founded in 2012 by Mitchell Hashimoto and Armon Dadgar, San Francisco-based HashiCorp provides tools to help manage cloud infrastructure and security.
The CMA notified Hashicorp in August that it would begin reviewing the merger. The US Federal Trade Commission is also investigating the deal.
