Theofimo at risk vs. Barboza: A loss could derail the dreams of the fight

Richardson Hitchins says he sees Teofimo López vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. as a 60-40 or 50 fight for its 12 round match on May 2 on Times Square in New York City. Hitchins feels that Teo has talent, and athletics is going for him, but it is not strategic as is Barboza Jr.

Teo: Unstable?

It does not enter a fight with a great game plan like Barboza Jr. and sometimes it collapses mentally when it comes to adversity. We saw that in López’s fights against George Kambosos Jr., Sandor Martin and Jamaine Ortiz. It was like a complete basket in those matches. When things go from Teofimo, it’s great, but when it develops when your opponents begin to succeed.

Teofimo (21-1, 13 kos) will have its Wbo Light weight title at stake against the undefeated Barboza Jr. (32-0, 11 kos) on the card, as well as a possible fight against the 147-pound champion of IBF, Jaron ‘boots’ Ennis in October. Losing to Barboza Jr. could make Teofimo fight against the boots, but could work in favor of Hitchins. It is probably the option of Plan B for Turki Alalshikh to use it if López loses before Barboza Jr.

Turki Alalshikh hinted today that the result of Teo, Ryan García and Devin Haney’s fights on the May 2 card will determine what he has for them in October. In other words, they had to win for their planned fights to occur. That is a lot of pressure on each of them, but especially for López because it is less effective in handling stress like Ryan and Haney.

I think it is a 60-40 or 50 fight. 60-40 for Teo or 50-50, ”said Richardson Hitchins for File room boxingSpeaking of The Fight of Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. on May 2 in New York City. “Barboza is not striking. It is a bit ordinary, but it has a good time and has a lot of experience.

“I see it and I say: ‘He is solid.’ Barboza is solid. I was very impressed how he beat Jack Catterall because he has a style in which he can make anyone look bad. Barboza came with the correct game plan. So, it is a guy who comes with a strong game plan, and I think Teophym is based more on his talent and athletics.

“I don’t think it’s a strategic type. I think Barboza has been wanting a fight for so long since they were with the best range. I think Teofimo is in a fight, ”said Hitchins.

“I think he is definitely in a fight. It is one in which I would not be surprised if it is going somehow. It is a very good fight, “said Ring announcer, David Diamante, about the Teophimo Clash Vs. Barboza Jr.” is very competitive. “
