American and global economic growth is lower than the previously projected, according to the latest estimates of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
“It is projected that the global growth of the Modere GDP of 3.2% in 2024, to 3.1% in 2025 and 3.0% in 2026, with the highest commercial barriers in several G20 economies and a greater geopolitical and political uncertainty that weighs on investment and spending at home,” said the OECD on Monday In its interim economic perspective report.
“The annual growth of GDP in the United States is expected to decrease from its strong recent rhythm, which is 2.2% in 2025 and 1.6% in 2026”.
In its previous projections, published in December, the OECD had estimated a global economic growth of 3.3% this year and next. The American economy was expected to grow 2.4% in 2025 and 2.1% in 2026.
The OECD said that its last projections were based “on the assumption that bilateral tariffs between Canada and the United States and between Mexico and the United States are raised by 25 additional percentage points in almost all imports of merchandise in April.”
If the increases in the rate were lower or applied to less goods, economic activity would be stronger and inflation would be lower than projected, “but global growth would still be weaker than expected above,” the report said.
