Optimum Announces Update on MSG Networks Carriage via Investing.com

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Optimum today provided an update on its MSG Networks (NYSE: ) vehicle.

Rear end:

Optimum’s car deal with MSG Networks expires at midnight on December 31, 2024.

For weeks, the companies discussed continuing to run vehicles on Optimum’s systems. During negotiations, MSG Networks wanted the highest programming rates and needed Optimum to make MSG’s channels available to a large number of video subscribers, whether they wanted content or not. This all-or-nothing approach would drive up cable bills while forcing many of our customers to pay for content they don’t watch.

Optimum cares about its customers and has worked on their behalf to reach a fair deal and bring our customers choice and value. Unfortunately, MSG Networks would not budge, and their content was removed from Optimum TV lineups.

Optimum offers the following statement:

At Optimum, we have a clear mission: provide the program our customers want and give it to them at a low price. Problem: MSG Networks wanted us to pay a lot of money to carry their content. AND that consumers who don’t want the news “who are the majority” have to pay for it anyway. Now more than ever, especially in this economy, it’s not fair for MSG Networks to demand more money from their Optimum viewers, especially when there are ways for fans to get games through direct from MSG with other direct-to-consumer options.

However, Optimum offered to accommodate their price demands if we could package MSG Networks in a way that would provide flexibility and control to our customers, so that fans could continue to watch and to pay for their content while non-viewers cannot be forced to pay for what they do not watch. MSG Networks refused and rejected multiple offers from us to reach an agreement.

It’s no secret that viewers of Regional Sports Networks are becoming increasingly fragmented across multiple platforms and services. Yet MSG Networks continues to squeeze more money out of its viewers to watch their content, refusing to change or deviate from a broken and outdated model based on the evolution of the entertainment industry. , is anti-consumer, and unsustainable in today’s programming environment.

Optimum seeks to partner with developers who put customer choice and flexibility at the center of every decision. We are disappointed with MSG Networks, but more importantly, we are sorry that our customers have to experience this change, which is why Optimum is working directly with customers to provide additional viewing options to ensure that they will never miss a game.
