Virgin Australia workers allegedly robbed, robbed in Fiji By Reuters

(Reuters) – Fiji’s government on Thursday said police were investigating incidents involving two Virgin Australia flight attendants who were allegedly victims of rape and robbery in Nadi in the early hours of Sunday. New Year.

The crew were at the popular tourist resort before they were due to fly out the next day, Fiji Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew said in a statement.

Mokwani, who said he was aware of the alleged incidents, has sent people to Fiji to offer support, but gave no further details in a statement to Reuters.

Fiji police say investigations so far have found some members of the Virgin crew went to the nightclub in Nadi.

“Unfortunately, two members of staff were the victims of alleged robbery and rape after leaving the nite party and trying to get back to the hotel,” said Chew.

Viliame Gavoka, Fiji’s deputy prime minister and minister of tourism and civil aviation, in a statement, clarified that these are two separate incidents of theft and sexual harassment that involved two different members of the Virgin crew.

Gavoka expressed regret over the alleged incidents and said that the suspect whom the police knew about the sexual abuse has been questioned and investigations are ongoing.

The South Pacific island nation of Fiji is a popular tourist destination and received 76,845 visitors in November, most of them from Australia, New Zealand and North America, according to the country’s tourism website.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Reuters it was aware of the reports but declined to comment further.
