Jennifer Lopez reflects on ‘difficult relationships’ after divorce

Jennifer Lopez indicated experiencing ups and downs in her personal life when discussing her role in the film Unstoppable.

Lopez, 55, recently opened Variety about how she related to her character in the biopic that highlights the wrestler’s life and career Anthony Robles. Lopez plays Anthony’s mom, Judy Robleswhose son was born without a right leg.

“I keep telling her, ‘You have to own who you are and what you’ve done,'” Lopez said. “You inspire every mother who has ever struggled. You have indeed won. You have raised a son who has become a leader and you deserve credit.’ But she is very modest.”

Lopez noted that she and Judy felt like “soul mates,” adding, “We both grew up in a Latin country in this country. We both had children and have hopes and dreams for them. We both had difficult relationships that kept our families together.’

As single mother Judy supported her son’s wrestling journey — Anthony won the 2011 NCAA National Individual Wrestling Championship in his weight class — she chased her big dreams. She went back to school and eventually became the associate athletic director at Arizona State University, the same school her son attended.

Meanwhile, Lopez faced off her own ups and downs with the added challenge of being in the public eye. She was previously married to Ojani Noah in 1997 and until Chris Judd from 2001 to 2003. In the midst of her breakup with Judd, Lopez continued Ben Affleckto whom she was engaged until 2004. The couple called off the wedding due to increased media attention.

Lopez was subsequently married Marc Anthony for 10 years from 2004 to 2014. The former couple co-parent 16-year-old twins Emme and Max.

After the end of her engagement with Alex Rodriguez in 2021, Lopez and Affleck, 52, rekindled their romance. The couple got engaged again in 2022 and held two wedding ceremonies later that year, exchanging vows in Las Vegas before celebrating with friends and family in Georgia. (Affleck was previously married Jennifer Garnerwith whom he has three children.)

Discuss her role with VarietyLopez emphasized the “strength” Judy displayed throughout her life. “Women are strong,” she explained. “We have to be. From the moment women are born, we always have to prove that we are good enough. This creates a kind of force. And then a lot of us give birth – and there’s nothing that makes you stronger than when you do.”
