Nicki Minaj was named in a lawsuit filed by a former employee who accused the rapper of assault and battery.
Brandon Garrettwho claimed to have worked as Minaj’s manager during her 2024 tour, sued the 42-year-old Minaj, according to Friday, Jan. 3, court documents obtained by TMZ. In the filing, Garrett claimed that Minaj called him into her dressing room after a concert in Detroit in April 2024, where she allegedly became upset when she learned that he had asked someone else to pick up the prescription.
(Another employee, Luke Montgomery) explained that his duties included tasks such as preparing the on-site dressing room, preparing the private jet, preparing the hotel room, preparing fast food in the dressing room and preparing the tour bus,” according to the document. “Mr. Montgomery mentioned that these duties were in addition to any requests (Minaj) communicated to (Garrett), including orders for food, beverages, personal items, baby supplies, and especially prescriptions.
Garrett reportedly explained to Minaj that he was busy with another task during the show and needed another assistant to run errands. When Minaj heard his reasoning, she reportedly became “visibly upset” and “screamed angrily at him.” Apparently she said, “Are you crazy that he picked up my prescription?” and “If my husband (Kenneth Petty) were here, he’d knock your teeth out.”
Garrett further claimed that Minaj “open-handedly hit him” on the right side of his face and then on his right wrist. Hours later, Garrett claimed another employee of Minaj’s team told him he would no longer be joining her team for her stop in Chicago.
Through her attorney, Minaj has denied Garrett’s allegations. My Weekly asked for comment.
“At this time, Ms. Petty has not been served with a complaint and therefore we do not know the specific allegations,” Minaj’s attorney said. Judd Burstein he said Variety in the statement. “However, if the lawsuit is what TMZ claims, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter raised by this former assistant will be quickly resolved in Ms. Petty’s favor.”
Minaj is a female rapper who broke into the music industry with the release of her album in 2010 Pink Friday. She has had several ups and downs throughout her career, including arrest in 2024 in Amsterdam.
During the international leg of her tour, Minaj claimed that she was stopped by the police after marijuana rolls were apparently found in her luggage.
“They tried to stop me from coming to every show,” Minaj wrote via Instagram in May 2024. “They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now they are waiting for customs. This is what it looks like when PPL get paid big bucks to try and sabotage a tour when all else has failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”
Minaj claimed the drugs belonged to her bodyguard and was released after a few hours.
“We have just released a 41-year-old American woman who we arrested this afternoon at Schiphol on suspicion of exporting soft drugs,” the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee said in a statement X, presumably referring to Minaj. “After consultation with the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect has been fined and is free to continue his journey.”
