Aubrey Plazamarriage with the deceased Jeff Brothers she allegedly rubbed some of her most devoted and intense fans the wrong way.

“Oh my god. Jeff got death threats in his DMs,” Plaza, 40, said Cosmopolitan in a 2022 profile, referring to several of her bisexual fans mourning her singlehood on social media. “I believe so.” People project so many things onto marriage, but it wasn’t some big statement that I’m trying to make where I want everyone to react to it.”

Plaza and Baena were together from 2011 to his sudden and untimely death in January 2025. To celebrate their 10th anniversary of dating, the pair tied the knot in 2020 during the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“A lot of things happened for me during COVID. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza recalled during a December 2021 appearance on the website The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We were a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s right, look at it.”

At the time, she added: “We were in lockdown. Things got a little crazy, especially in my house. My husband really got into tying, and when I say tying, I mean 50 shirts a day.”

Plaza and Baena wedding at home in what she described as a witchcraft affair.

“I created a very quick altar of love in our yard. The facts of our love, stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature,” she told host Ellen DeGeneres. “Then a man from the Alhambra appeared in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase (to perform the ceremony). … I don’t remember much, it was a blur. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”

While speaking with CosmoPlaza went on to describe the haunting ceremony and her penchant for spellbinding content.

“I’ve always loved Halloween. Growing up in Delaware, there was always a witchy vibe and my mom was always a witch. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s in our blood,” she joked. “I have Basque blood – like a lot of witches who were burned at the stake in the European witch trials.” My mom always made me believe in magic. No, like rabbit-in-a-hat magic—she’s just always operated on a different wavelength.’

She added: “In high school I also used to go into the woods with my friends and do weird magic and stuff. Somewhere along the way I really got into herbs and mushrooms and oils and other pagan things. It became less ‘I’m doing a spell to harness the power of the wind’ and more ‘I’m using these herbs as medicine’ or something.’

My Weekly confirmed on Saturday, January 4 that Baena, an independent filmmaker, died by suicide at the age of 47. Plaza has yet to publicly comment on his death.
