RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Tyra Sanchez he was criticized for making fun of himself death from James Lee Williamsbetter known as Vivienne.
Resistance was ignited when Tyra, formerly known as King Tyra and whose birth name was James Rosstook to X on Sunday, Jan. 5, in response to a 2020 tweet from The Vivienne that discussed Tyra, 36. Tyra’s joke was posted on the same day as Vivienne’s death confirmed their manager, Simon Jonesvia Instagram.
Vivienne’s 2020 tweet read: “Bet Tyra was pissed when she realized Netflix spoiled the win too. Sorry girl. Even if you tried,” to which Tyra responded on Sunday, “Still, it doesn’t compare to crematorium fumes.”
Fellow drag queen Candy Musewhose real name is Kevin Gabriel Candalario, he replied to Tyra’s post: “I’ve been defending you for years, but now you can give up completely – yourself and if our paths should ever cross, it’s absolutely within sight, bitch, it’s not a threat, it’s a promise. you vile person.”
Another user X commented: “You are disgusting… Shame on you,” while another wrote: “It was very twisted. As someone who admired you, it’s so cold and disappointing.”
However, the widespread criticism did nothing to dampen Tyra’s attitude, as Tyra wrote later in the evening: “She’s dead. Rotting. Sending me all the hate in the world won’t bring it back. But do as you must. Thanks to you, the tweet reached more than 25 thousand people. Thank you for the much needed attention I so desperately needed.”
Vivienne’s death shocked fans of the show, who had closely followed the drag queen’s career after she won the inaugural Drag Race British series in 2019. Jones’ announcement on Instagram on Sunday read: “It is with immense sadness that we inform you that our beloved James Lee Williams — The Vivienne passed away this weekend. James was an incredibly loving, warm-hearted and wonderful person. Their family is heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle.” Vivienne was 32.
The cause of death has not yet been revealed.
In a follow-up statement regarding Vivienne’s death, also shared via Jones’ Instagram account, Jones shared a more personal reaction to the news, writing that Vivienne was more than a client — they were friends.

I’m in complete shock, devastated and absolutely heartbroken, one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and spent time with – you kept me up when I was at my lowest point on tour with your radiant energy and smile. i will miss you my friend rest beautiful 💔 I love you @thevivienne_.”
