Tech companies love to bring the robot to the stage. These systems act as shorthand for consumer electronics brands. Sometimes we get an Amazon Astro or a Sony Aibo that is marketed in some form. Most of the time, bots only exist in the land of press conferences.
Ballie from Samsung has been kicking around the CES circuit for half a decade now. The home robot took a bit Improvements at CES 2024including project. Ultimately, however, it didn’t seem any closer to the market.
Fast forward CES 2025and now we have a very rough schedule to launch. Samsung confirmed this week that the robot will hit the market in the next six months. However, there is still a tough road ahead. According to Samsung, “Ballie acts as a personal home assistant, autonomously driving around the home to perform various tasks.”
Aside from the vacuum, home robots have struggled to make any progress. Large companies have abandoned projects and smaller startups have closed. There simply aren’t enough features to justify such high price tags.
Will Ballie be different? Probably not. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if the anthropomorphic ball got at least a little traction in Samsung’s home country of South Korea. The US and the rest of the world is another question entirely. Samsung can provide more information on pricing and availability at the press conference Monday at 2 pm PT.
