During the Friday, January 3, episode of the hit sitcom, Bobbie (McEntire) and Gabby (Melissa Peterman) to compete to host the pub’s anniversary celebration. Bobbie asked Emmett (Rex Linn, McEntire’s true friend) for help, which elicited a surprising, hilarious response.
“I realize you know nothing about talent show judging,” Emmett joked. “But decisions should be made based on talent and talent alone.
He added, “That’s what America expects and that’s what America deserves.”
Before McEntire (69) joined. Happy’s Placeshe was briefly a judge at America has talent in 2016. She later worked as a trainer at Voice after Blake Shelton‘s exit in 2023. Country music star met with some success during her 24 to 26 term and eventually won the s Asher HaVon in 2024.
McEntire’s new series, which premiered in October, did some not so subtle references to her next screen role. The show follows Bobbie as she inherits her father’s restaurant and discovers a new business partner in her stepsister (Belissa Escobedo), which she didn’t know she had.
Besides the creator of the series Kevin AbbottPast collaboration with McEntire’s Reba sitcom, Peterman, 53, also starred in the show. Their ex Reba costar Steve Howey recently played a guest role Happy’s Place.
“Kevin had an idea for this character beforehand. And then he thought, ‘What if Howey did that? That would be really cool to do a reunion.’ My Weekly in December 2024. “The planets just aligned with this one.”
Howey’s appearance as Danny some easter eggs referring to his time playing Van Reba.
“That little wink and nod is really great for the audience,” he said. “The line I gave was the first time I walked in when Reba drew on Melissa’s picture and did a mustache. I say, ‘Hey, nice mustache.’ She turns and says, ‘I wish I could say the same about you.’ But that was my line to Reba – and that’s how cool Reba is. I can pitch something and she’s like, ‘I’ll try it.'”
The actor said he was happy, Danny did not become a copy and paste Van version.
“Van is obviously different because I was so different. I was much younger, much more naive and much fresher. It was my first serial regular job, so it was very new. Now, after 20 years, I can bring different experiences to the characters I play,” he explained. “Also, the relationships between the characters—because Happy’s Place is a new thing – they are different. Yes, it’s Reba Melissa, but the characters are different. Bobbie is very different from Reba. Gabby is very different from Barbara Jean and Danny is obviously different.’
He continued: “The guy has his own business. He has money and he plays this game. Like you said, Danny was watching them the whole time. … They have something special (with Happy’s Place) that makes sense and Reba has another flash in the bottle show.”
Happy’s Place airs Fridays at 8pm on NBC.
