Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Garcelle Beauvais she reflects on the “long journey” she and her son have come Oliver Saunders after his past struggles with addiction.
“My relationship with Oliver is really good now,” Garcelle, 58, said on Tuesday. RHOBA. “Oliver has been in a really dark place over the years. I had all kinds of emotions, sometimes all in one day – fear, guilt.”
Garcelle admitted that she often thought about what she had done “wrong” as a parent during the ordeal of her son’s addiction.
“I had to practice tough love,” she said of her relationship with her son during this period. “I knew he was homeless, I knew he was in a bad place, and there was nothing I could do.
Bravo star who shares 32-year-old Oliver with ex-husband Daniel Saundersbroke down in tears during Tuesday’s episode as she recalled one particularly difficult moment involving her son.
“Years ago I was at home (with) my girlfriend. We were together and it was getting late,” she said. “We heard a noise and I looked outside. I turned on the light and I saw it as Oliver.”
Garcelle continued, “It was Oliver in flesh, but he wasn’t Oliver. How he acted, how his eyes looked, how he was so erratic.’
She said Oliver was trying to get into the pool house before she stopped him.
“This is my son that I won’t open the door to,” Garcelle recalled through tears. “I watched him go and I didn’t take him in. I felt 1,000 pounds of guilt for not letting him in.”
The RHOBA star added: “It was some tough love we had to do, so hopefully that’s the thing that changes things.”
Oliver is the father of a 4-year-old son, Oliver Saunders Jr. (OJ), which he shares with his ex-wife Samantha Saunders. The proud papa is about to welcome baby no. 2 with a girlfriend Shantei Paranda.
Garcelle previously talked about Oliver’s addiction during 2020 episode from RHOBA.
“If we’re all being honest, I’m not a perfect parent,” she told her teammates at the time. “My son Oliver has struggled with addiction since the fifth grade. We’ve been through so much. … I would never judge another parent. Sometimes I feel like I messed it up because I was too lenient with him.”
